Extraction of Polyphenol in Bitter Melon (Momordica Charantia)

Bitter melon (Momordicacharantia) is traditionally known for its medicinal propertiessuch as antidiabetic, anticancer, anti-inflammation, antivirus, and cholesterol lowering effects.It contains many phenolic compounds that may have the potential as antioxidant andantimutagen. We evaluate and select bitter melon to extract polyphenol. Main technical factors for extraction: ethanol 70o, material/solvent 1/15, temperature 70oC, time 120 minutes, pH 3.5, two step extraction recovery 87.27%. Main technical factors for acid treatment: ratio of extract/water 1/15, temperature 70oC, time 45 minutes, deposit 36 hours. Main technical factors for purification: polyphenol/ethyl acetate 2/1, three steps of purification.
