Abstract:
Extraction of the seeds of Napoleonae imperialis P.Beauv yielded two terpenoids which had molluscicidal and antibacterial inhibitory properties. Further work has revealed an additional member of this series; 3β-[(α-L-rhamnopyranosyl (1-2)] [β-D-glucopyranosyl (1-4)] [β-D-glucopyranosyl(1-4)] [β –D-glucoronpyranosyl]- 22α, 24, 28-trihydroxyl-21-β-O-angeloxyl-urs-12-ene. Isolation of the new triterpenoid was achieved by column chromatography and structure elucidated by infra red (IR), proton-nuclear magnetic resonance (1H-NMR), carbon -13 nuclear magnetic resonance (13C-NMR), and Fast atom bombardment Mass spectrometry (FABMS)
